Connecting renewables specialists to pioneering projects in Japan

ROUND 1 – 1.7 GW

All three of the 2021 offshore wind auctions were won by a Mitsubishi-led consortium, each featuring fixed-bottom structures with a combined capacity of 1.7 GW and forecast to start 2028 to 2030.

ROUND 2 – 1.8 GW

RWE Renewables, as part of a consortium of Japanese developers managed to secure a 684 MW project with the rest awarded to local players. Similarly, all three winning projects are fixed-bottom offshore wind farms and are scheduled to start operation between June 2028 and August 2029.

We were initially engaged by one of Taylor Hopkinson’s global client accounts to deliver a Senior Finance Lead position for its APAC team.

This was a strategically important role, responsible for implementing all financial processes for the whole APAC region as well as building a strong team across its key locations in Japan, Taiwan and South Korea.

We have since worked in partnership with the new team lead to secure key permanent hires across the region including an APAC Finance Controller and two Senior Finance Controllers.

We worked on an exclusive basis with senior management at Japan’s leading power generation company to deliver a top global executive for a newly-created executive leadership role within its global renewables business, reporting directly to the CEO of Group Operations.

This position required full relocation to Tokyo for an experienced European professional of significant standing in the renewables industry.

Following a thorough international search covering all established renewables markets, our specialist team secured a leading female executive from the European market to drive growth in its renewables business globally.

We partnered with a global renewables investment giant based in Japan, to source and deliver an experienced HSE Director with a strong background in renewables, to drive its projects and investments across Japan, ensuring compliance with the company’s local and international HSE standards.

With additional challenges including local complexities and language requirements, our team had a very small pool of qualified candidates to work with. We presented a strong shortlist of suitable candidates, all of whom brought with them experience across a range of renewable energy backgrounds. We delivered an exceptional candidate with an impressive track record in solar and storage, as well as international HSE standards, which was fully in line with our client’s requirements.

We worked with a major JV solar developer based in Asia to deliver a world-class Design Engineering Manager, based in Japan.

Working to a tight timescale, our Onshore team sourced and presented an impressive shortlist of three highly qualified technical solar engineers with the successful candidate taking the lead on all technical and delivery aspects of our client’s solar projects across Japan.

Following this placement and with our client’s solar project pipeline growing rapidly; we were engaged to deliver a Project Manager to bolster its delivery and construction team. With a quick turnaround, our local team delivered a strong candidate with with prior experience working within EPC contractors.

To support the development and origination of bankable solar projects across Japan, we were engaged by our long-standing client, a leading utility-scale solar development platform, to secure a highly experience Development Director.

Drawing upon our extensive track record and our team’s local networks, we presented a number of well-reputed executive candidates who were interviewed within a week of job briefing. The preferred candidate has gone on to deliver a suite of successful solar projects across the region.
