Director of Finance

Vårgrønn is an agile, Norway-based offshore wind company powering the energy transition through development, construction, operation, and ownership of offshore wind assets. Vårgrønn is a joint venture between the energy company Plenitude (Eni) and the Norwegian energy entrepreneur and investor HitecVision.

Vårgrønn holds a 20% share in Dogger Bank, the world’s largest offshore windfarm under construction, and has together with Flotation Energy been awarded exclusivity to develop up to 1.9 GW from the offshore floating windfarms Green Volt and Cenos in Scotland. Green Volt will be Europe’s first commercial scale floating offshore wind farm.

We are collaborating with Equinor to develop a floating offshore wind project at Utsira Nord in Norway of up to 750 MW, and the Baltics, Vårgrønn is leading a collaboration with European Energy towards the upcoming auction round in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. In Ireland, we are partnering with Energia Renewables to develop offshore wind projects of up to 1.8 GW. Our organisation is based in Stavanger, Oslo, and London, and is expanding to meet our strategic goals and drive offshore wind forward in Northern Europe. Find out more about Vårgrønn here

This position will be a part of the Green Volt project team, a pioneering floating offshore wind project, for which Vårgrønn and Flotation Energy was awarded a UK Government Contract for Difference.

The project will be a catalyst for the creation of a robust floating wind supply chain in the UK, and an essential steppingstone from current small-scale projects to gigawatt-size developments. Green Volt represents an important leap towards the 5GW floating offshore wind target the UK has set for 2030, and the benefits of Green Volt will be felt beyond the UK, being a catalyst for the development of floating wind elsewhere in Europe.

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Managerial responsibility for the financial planning and performance measurement of the project, including cash flow analysis, budgeting and forecasting, and cost management.
  • Project Financing: Lead the workstream to raise project financing for the offshore wind project.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Collaborating with stakeholders to ensure their satisfaction with the project’s financial aspects. This will include active facilitation of information flow with several advisers involved in the project financing such as financial advisor, legal advisor, technical advisor and other necessary competences involved in the financing process.
  • Financial Process: Implementing new or revised financial policies and systems for better financial management.

Experience and qualifications

We are looking for a motivated and passionate professional with a Master’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or similar, or equivalent experience.

The ideal candidate will have a solid background within financial principles such as budgeting and forecasting, and experience with non-recourse project financing in offshore wind or other energy industries. Proficiency in project management, including planning, scheduling, and risk management, is essential.

Excellent communication and negotiation skills are required to interact effectively with stakeholders and senior management. The role demands strong leadership, critical thinking for data analysis, and the ability to manage financial risks.

Flexibility in adapting to changing project needs and precision in financial tasks are important.
